This is our ultimate trip for the truly obsessed. Nelson mountain biking is epic if you know where to look! This trip is for advanced riders only with experience on steep and technical trails.
DAY 1
Arrive Nelson, Ride Kaiteriteri
Our trip is designed to ease you in. Kaiteriteri MTB park is the perfect way to do this. Get accustomed to riding with the group in a new place with this picturesque place with views over the Abel Tasman National Park and finish of your ride with a dip in the ocean and some fish and chips!
ACCOMMODATION: Nelson Ride House RIDE TIME: 3-4 hours DISTANCE: Up to you MEALS: (L,D)
DAY 2
Ride Wairoa Gorge
If you were to build a MTB park and money was no issue, you would come up with something like this. Wairoa Gorge has an interesting history and these steep beech forested hills are a mountain bikers dream. The trails are consistent with their grade top to bottom (800m/24000ft) and are extremely well built to feel supernatural.
We will be on the shuttles to the top and linking up some epic runs down into the gorge.
ACCOMMODATION: Nelson Ride House RIDE TIME: 4-5 hours DISTANCE: Unlimited CLIMB: very little DESCENT: 800 metres + MEALS: (B,L,D)
DAY 3
Nelson Shuttles
There is a lot of mountain biking to choose from in Nelson. The only barrier is the hills are huge! But that is why we like it. Taking a private shuttle means that we can get a much bigger sample size and ride a lot more DOWN.
ACCOMMODATION: Nelson Ride House RIDE TIME: 4 hours DISTANCE: depends on the day CLIMB: 300 metres MEALS: (B,L,D)
DAY 4
Cable Bay
Arguably our favourite spot, we have saved this until last. Steep-dropping corners, rocky rooty chutes, and a cafe at the bottom. This place is epic. Cable Bay has a strong trail-building community and the fact that it is private land means that whatever they feel like building, they build. This gives the place its own vibe, and has led to some great riding! The riding is harder in general here, so we left in until last so that you are used to the general style of the area by now. There are still easier options if the week has taken its toll, and there is always the cafe to sit out a lap or two.
ACCOMMODATION: Nelson Ride House RIDE TIME: 4 hours DISTANCE: How many km you can squeeze in CLIMB: 100-300 metres DESCENT: 4321? metres MEALS: (B,L,D)
